"Oh What A Night"

Last night was the "Ezras Nashim" concert at the Millenium Theater in Brighten Beach, and let me tell you, frum women have it goooood. First of all, Kineret is awesome; so authentic and hot on stage! The show opened with Bracha Jaffe and co. a beautiful, sweet, (very pregnant) young lady from the Five Towns who sang Tefilla Le'ani by Rivkah Krinsky (one of my favorite on her album), another song I didn't know and then Anavim by Avraham Fried. Lovely girl, lovely voice.

After Bracha was a comedy sketch that I missed while back stage with my baby. I heard the laughter and saw a stroller with a giant spongebob squarepants in it so I'm assuming it was entertaining in the least! Finally I was up, starting with Shabbos Queen. See the giant Shabbos Queen on the screen? Awesome no? I then rocked out on the electric guitar for the song Horaini, followed by I Daven, complete with a beautiful slideshow.

Following me was Kineret who sang forever and a day, covering songs by Shwekey, Avraham Fried, Gad Elbaz, as well as a myriad of Sefardic hits. I use the word "cover" loosely cuz she certainly makes them her own. She had adorable dancers in glittery costumes and she was all over the stage and in the crowd. Only negative feedback I overheard, is that she's been wearing the same costumes for years now! Otherwise she's perfection on stage, a real shame the "mener" are missing out.

After Kineret's 1st set, I was back with "Sister, Sister"

Three times the charm!

Last week I was in Florida for the Cohen Bas Mitzvah. I have sung at many Bas Mitzvah's in my day but this one really takes the cake. Three gorgeous girls, Simcha, Mazal and Zisil, gave an incredible speech that had everyone, including themselves, in tears. The night was filled with so many tender and special moments, like when the parents blessed the Bnot Mitzvah under a talis, and when the girls' 12 years played out on a big screen while I sang "Sister, Sister". And the city streets will empty....

Summertime in New York is a special time for the lucky folk who enjoy eight long weeks in the sun, relaxing outdoors, while their children frolic in kiddie pools, outside on the concrete. And yes, I am talking about those of us fortunate enough to stay home and sleep in our own mosquito-free bedrooms. That would be me and I can proclaim happily "I love the city in the summertime!" However when June comes around and my friends are fleeing upstate I still get a little pang of curiosity, if you will. Is the country for me now that I have a little family of my own? Wouldn't it be wonderful to play guitar outside in the evening and actually SEE the stars? My daughter knows "Twinkle, twinkle" by heart but I don't think she actually knows what a star IS! Anyhoo, I just came back from a 2 day stint upstate where I sang in Woodridge Bungalow to a dynamite group of mothers and daughters (and mothers helpers of course) and a quick drop-in to camp Emunah where we brought the house DOWN. Btw, if any campers got pics, please email them to me. It was raining way too hard to look for my camara in the trunk of my car.

Creating the Crown of Creation

Back in summer '04, my 2nd album The Crown of Creation was completed. Although putting together the music comes easy for me, it's a challenge getting a visual for the cover art and with every album, I kinda let the graphic artist "do their thing". When the cds were finally delivered to the Judaica store, I was horrified to see how dark the artwork colors had come out! Luckily, there had been a major printing mistake and the booklets had to be totally reprinted. I had the GA redo the booklet and match the colors to the cd (that had already been pressed.) Here is the original cover,And here is what it looks like today. Ironically, despite the rush job, it is the best selling album. Which do you prefer?
